Area 17 was founded in 1981 and provides programming for people in the counties of Sangamon and Menard.
We currently serve over 480 athletes, have 29 active agencies and over 214 class A volunteers. Area 17 offers competition for athletes in 13 sports and hosted 6 competitions in 2009. There are many opportunities available for you to get involved with Special Olympics including serving as a volunteer or committee member, helping with fundraising, or competing as an athlete.
