ISU Equestrian Club Becomes Fan of Volunteering

Whether a competitive collegiate equestrian or Special Olympics athlete – a horse is a horse, of course, of course. That’s what a group of Illinois State University students learned when they volunteered at the equestrian venue at the Special Olympics Illinois Outdoor Sports Festival in Decatur.

On Sept. 12 & 13, about 20 members of the ISU club volunteered their time and knowledge to ensure the equestrian competition venue ran smoothly. The students worked in the athlete bullpen area, opened and closed gates into the competition ring and assisted in a number of other ways. All felt it was a positive experience, according to club president Amy Sneed, a junior majoring in middle level education. Read More 

Volunteers Integral Part of Special Olympics 

Special Olympics would not exist today – could not have been created – without the time, energy, education, and commitment of the more than 25,000 volunteers in Illinois and more than a million worldwide! Special Olympics Illinois relies on people of all ages to help in every aspect of the program – both at the local and state level.

Anyone 10 years or older can be a Special Olympics volunteer. Volunteering for Special Olympics can create lifetime friendships and great rewards.
