RON KNISLEY SPIRIT OF THE GAMES AWARD
In honor of our dear friend and colleague Ron Knisley, Special Olympics Illinois and the game officials for the State Basketball Tournament have created the “Ron Knisley Spirit of the Game” award.
After each game the officials will choose an athlete from each team that has displayed good sportsmanship, leadership and through his/her actions has promoted the true “Spirit of the Special Olympics Games.” Ribbons will be given to the athletes immediately following their game. Athletes are eligible to win the individual game award only once during the tournament.
Athletes who win individual game awards are then eligible for the Ron Knisley All Tournament Spirit Award. This award will go to the individual who has shown outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The winner of the All Tournament Spirit Award will have their name engraved on a plaque that will be displayed in the State Special Olympics office in Normal. Winners will then be recognized at the State Basketball Opening Ceremonies the following year.
2010 All Tournament Spirit Award winners: Lisa Newbury of Region II Chargers and Jim Berke of Lamb's Farm High Rollers.
