Special Olympics Illinois and Jewel-Osco are at it again to raise critical funds for Special Olympics Illinois athletes during their annual campaign, “Change for Champions.”

Running from July 1 to July 31, this in-store promotion allows customers to make donations to Special Olympics Illinois via pin pad or cash at more than 180 participating Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois.

This longstanding partnership has historically raised hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support the mission of Special Olympics Illinois.

This year, the campaign features John, a Special Olympics Illinois athlete and beloved Jewel-Osco employee for 17 years.

John was nominated and selected by his colleagues as the 2024 “Change for Champions” Ambassador because of his outstanding service and friendly demeanor. Known for his enthusiasm and love for chatting about local sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, John has received countless compliments for his energy, kindness, and speed at checkout.

“John is friendly, outgoing, and his name often comes up in customer satisfaction surveys for his exceptional service,” shares a colleague.

John, an active participant in Special Olympics Illinois, has recently taken up playing basketball. He embodies the spirit of the organization, according to numerous accounts.

Jewel-Osco’s commitment to inclusion is evident in its workforce, employing hundreds of individuals with intellectual disabilities, including many Special Olympics Illinois athletes. This partnership not only raises critical funds for Special Olympics Illinois programming but also champions inclusion in the workplace.

Support Special Olympics Illinois by shopping at Jewel-Osco and donating to “Change for Champions” this July. Your contributions help fuel essential programming and make a difference in the lives of athletes like John.
