Five O at the Dirty O
Five-O at the Dirty O is a stock car race in which law enforcement officers race stock vehicles decked out in their department’s patrol colors and decals. Emergency lights are encouraged to add to the fanfare. Since its inception in 2016, law enforcement personnel from 30 agencies have hit the dirt track and raised more than $470,000 for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.
In 2021, this event is scheduled to take place at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet on Saturday, July 24.
Each officer must raise a minimum of $500 in donations to participate. Drivers are encouraged to recruit family and friends to serve as their “Pit Crew” to help assist in their fundraising efforts. The initial starting lineup the night of the race is based off each driver’s fundraising efforts. The more you raise the higher you are in the lineup.
The winning officer not only receives the ultimate bragging rights as the fastest cop in town but is presented with a trophy that evening!
