COVID Procedures

All participants should self-screen prior to arriving at this event and should remain home if feeling unwell or displaying coronavirus symptoms.

All athletes, coaches and spectators are required to wear a mask while inside the Bowling facility regardless of vaccination status. All athletes and Unified Partners are required to wear a mask indoors while they are competing.

Unless fully vaccinated, participants who are medically able should continue to wear a mask at outdoor venus the majority of time while at Special Olympics Illinois activities.

Athletes and Unified Partners do not have to wear a mask while competing in outdoor competitions.

Vaccination is not required to attend in person events.

Special Olympics Illinois will not be providing masks.  Athletes and coaches must bring their own.

SOILL will have hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes/spray and other cleaning/sanitizing products on-site.

Please check with your Region staff on the status of spectators attending competitions.  With a few exceptions, only registered athletes, coaches and partners are allowed at these events.  It is very important you relay to all parents and guardians the importance of only allowing registered persons into the event.

Special Olympics Illinois is committed to providing the best athlete, volunteer, coach and supporter environment possible.  While we are excited to resume in-person events, the health and well-being of our constituents remains our top priority.  All of our in person events follow the COVID-19 recommended IDPH and CDC guidelines.

What is Bowling?

Bowling is perhaps the most popular sport in Illinois. Bowling competition is conducted using a traditional format. However for those of lower ability or with physical disabilities, bowling has been modified by utilizing a ramp on the approach.

As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped into competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender when appropriate.

Athletes in Illinois who participate in bowling compete locally at Region Qualifying events.  Gold medal winners are then eligible to advance to the State Bowling Championships held in Peoria in December.

• Singles competition
• Doubles Competition
• Team Competition

Developmental

• Ramp singles (ramp bowlers may also enter doubles and team competition as part of a traditional team)

Region A Bowling will offer Singles and Doubles as a qualifying event to State Bowling.

Facility Information

We will utilize the entire Bowling Center for up to four shifts, 2 on Saturday and 2, if necessary, on Sunday.

Event Information

8:30 AM – Registration
9:00 AM – Warm-up
9:15 AM – Opening Ceremony
9:30 AM – Competition begins

Athletes will need to provide their own PPE and Water. Balls and Shoes available through Cherry Bowl.

Awards

This is a qualifying event and will be divisioned with awards given to athletes.

Concessions

Concessions are available. Food is TBA.
