Region I Warrensburg-Latham High School Spring Games

What is Athletics / Spring Games / Track and Field?

Athletics offers a wide variety of traditional track and field events. Competition is also provided for athletes with various abilities in a variety of development track and field events.

As in all Special Olympics Illinois sports, athletes are grouped into competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender when appropriate.

Athletes in Illinois who compete in athletics compete locally at their region Spring Games. Gold medal winners are eligible to advance to the State Championship held at the Summer Games in Normal in June.

Athletics Events Offered in Illinois

  • 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500- and 3000-meter run
  • 100, 400- and 800-meter race walk
  • Running long jump
  • High jump
  • Shotput and wheelchair shotput
  • Relays – 4×100 and 4×400 meter run, 4×25 meter wheelchair and 4×100 meter walk
  • Pentathlon (100, 400-meter run, running long jump, high jump and shotput)
  • 25, 30 slalom, 100 and 200-meter non-motorized wheelchair race

Developmental Events

  • 10, 25 and 50 Meter Assisted Walk
  • 30 and 50 Meter Motorized Wheelchair Slalom
  • Standing Long Jump
  • High Jump
  • Softball Throw
  • Tennis Ball Throw

Competition Information

All athletes will report to their color coded group immediately following Opening Ceremonies. These groups are divided into age groups (green 8-15 co-ed, blue 16-29 co-ed, yellow 30+ females, and red 30+ males). Athletes will travel with their group to each venue and receive their awards once they have competed.

Facility Information

Plenty of parking in the lot to the North of the track, there will be indoor access to bathrooms and locker rooms, as well as porta potties. Concessions will be open to purchase lunch/snacks and souvenirs for sale.

Event Details

8-8:30 AM: Registration for Coaches and Volunteers.
8:45-9:45 AM: Parade Line up & Opening Ceremonies on Track (weather permitting) otherwise in gym.
9:45 AM: Relays Immediately following Opening Ceremonies.
12:30-1:00 PM: Break for lunch: athletes, coaches and volunteers will receive lunch in the large gym located inside the school. Seating for lunch is in the cafetorium, the all purpose room next to cafetorium or outside. Concessions will be open to spectators.
1:00-3:00 PM: Events resume.

Equipment

Teams should bring their own water bottles, chairs, tents or umbrellas as we will be outside all day.
Athletes need to be dressed to compete, wear athletic shoes (no boots/dress shoes), shorts or athletic pants (no jeans) and no jewelry or medals/ribbons should be worn during competition.

Awards

Awards will be presented after the completion of each event. If an athlete misses an award their coach may pick up the award. We will not be doing multiple award ceremonies.

Concessions

Lunch and water will be provided for all registered athletes and coaches and all day volunteers.

Special Olympics Illinois is committed to providing the best athlete, volunteer, coach and supporter environment possible. While we are excited to resume in-person events, the health and well-being of our constituents remains our top priority. All of our in person events follow the COVID-19 recommended IDPH and CDC guidelines.
