New Staff – August 2015
The following people have joined Special Olympics Illinois or received new assignments within the organization:
Jessica Blitt has joined SOILL as Northern Regional Manager – Young Athletes based at the Lombard office.
She will be responsible for managing Young Athletes sites and coordinators, providing support, training, and planning and executing events. Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children aged 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.
Blitt has worked in adapted sports programs and rehabilitation programs through Synergy Adaptive Athletics, Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association, Illinois Bone and Joint Institute and Special Olympics Michigan since 2010.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Science of Kinesiology from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority and was active in Relay for Life and Greek Week.
Byrnes previously worked with Special Olympics Illinois as a Human Resources intern. She is completing her senior year at Illinoi State University and will graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management.
Lynn Harris has joined SOILL as a part-time Customer Service Representative based at the Normal office. She is responsible for front desk duties in the afternoons and assisting other departments as needed.
Harris worked in office support positions at Nordine Remodeling, Frontier Communications, Verizon Communications and GTE, all in Bloomington, since 1992.
She attended Joliet Junior College and Lincoln College, Normal.
Mollie Knutson has been named Data Entry Specialist based at the Normal office. She is responsible for general data entry and management.
Knutson previously was employed with Special Olympics Illinois as a student worker for the Sports Training & Competition department.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Illinois State University, Normal, where she was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
Aimée Spack has joined SOILL as Office Manager as the Normal location. She is responsible for oversight of all office activities, supervision and coordination of administrative activities, and supervises the maintenance and alteration of office areas and equipment.
Spack has been employed in office management since 2000 at local accounting and architecture businesses. Previously, she worked for the Agency on Aging coordinating its Senior Games.
She is a graduate of Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.
Ed Uphoff has been named Database Manager based at the Normal office. He is responsible for training SOILL employees in various databases, facilitating consistent business analysis & data acquisition, and will coordinate new data development to ensure consistency and integration with existing data structure.
Uphoff has more than 15 years’ experience in information technology at Progressive Impressions International, Bloomington, where he held various positions in the IT field. He also is an independent technology consultant.
He has attended Heartland Community College and Illinois Central College.
Michelle Weiner has joined SOILL as Director – Development based at the Lombard office. She is responsible for building corporate relationships with Illinois companies.
Weiner recently retired from Interior Investments Inc., Lincolnshire, where as Associate Principal she was responsible for engineering the marketing strategy, sales training initiatives and operational systems that resulted in record revenues and recognition as one of Inc. Magazine’s 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.
As the mother of two young adults with disabilities, she has extensive experience in advocacy roles. She is also Vice President of the Lane Tech High School Alumni Board, and is a board member of St. Luke Ministries and Center on Halstead, all of Chicago.
